About the Laramie County Recovery Court Programs:
Laramie County operates three specialized treatment court programs: Drug Court, DUI Court, and Mental Health Diversion Court. These programs address the underlying causes of criminal behavior through a coordinated approach that combines treatment, supervision, accountability, and ongoing support. Participants are provided with the structure and resources needed to build stable, healthy, and productive lives. Recovery Courts are widely recognized as one of the most effective criminal justice interventions in the United States and in Wyoming. In Laramie County, the results are clear—approximately 80% of participants who graduate from a Recovery Court program are not re-arrested for new criminal offenses.

What is Laramie County Drug Court?
The Laramie County Drug Court is a treatment-focused program designed to offer intensive rehabilitation services to high-risk and high-need individuals with substance use disorders. The program establishes a structured environment with clear, consistent, and easy-to-understand expectations. Participant progress is closely monitored, with outcomes tied directly to individual performance and measurable results. Accountability is central to the program, with compliance based on choices fully within each participant’s control.

Through early intervention, evidence-based treatment, supervision, and support, the program works to break the cycle of addiction for those involved in the criminal justice system.

What is Laramie County DUI Court?
The Laramie County DUI Court is a recovery court designed to address the risk posed to the Laramie County community by individuals convicted of multiple Driving Under the Influence (DUI) offenses and those with dangerously high blood alcohol concentrations (BAC). The program targets the underlying substance use disorder that contributes to repeated impaired driving and works to break that cycle through treatment, supervision, accountability, support, and encouragement.
Laramie County DUI Court Mission Statement: The mission of the Laramie County DUI Court is to use a comprehensive, coordinated, and pro-active approach to reduce the threat of impaired drivers in our community. Through a dynamic and evidence-based strategy, the program works to reduce repeated impaired driving and enhance public safety.
Laramie County DUI Court Goals:
Goal I: Provide sentencing options to all Laramie County courts for eligible DUI cases incorporating ongoing judicial oversight, supervised probation, and comprehensive treatment.
Goal II: Reduce repeat impaired driving offenses in Laramie County by promoting personal accountability, responsibility, and consistent engagement in treatment.
Goal III: Strengthen coordination among the criminal justice system, government agencies, and community organizations to reduce impaired driving on our roadways.
The Laramie County Recovery Court programs operate in alignment with state statutes and do not supersede governing law. These programs work collaboratively with traditional court systems to support appropriate referrals and coordinate court schedules and hearings.
What is Laramie County Mental Health Diversion Court?
The Laramie County Mental Health Diversion Court is a pre-trial diversion program that serves individuals charged with a crime who have a serious mental illness. It diverts eligible participants away from the traditional criminal justice process and into community-based mental health treatment, case management, and structured court supervision.
Laramie County Mental Health Diversion Court Mission Statement: The mission of the Laramie County Mental Health Diversion Court is to provide a meaningful alternative to traditional prosecution for individuals with serious mental illness. By connecting participants to appropriate treatment, services, and support, the program seeks to improve individual outcomes, reduce involvement in the criminal justice system, and support a healthier, safer community.

Goal I: Divert eligible individuals with serious mental illness from the criminal justice system into appropriate community-based treatment and services at the earliest opportunity.
Goal II: Improve participant stability and functioning by addressing mental health needs and supporting consistent engagement in treatment.
Goal III: Reduce recidivism and future justice system involvement through coordinated supervision, treatment, and accountability.
