John A. Martin

John A. Martin was Sheriff T. Jeff Carr's deputy and collector. Carr appointed him to the deputy position in October 1877.

At the time, Carr described Martin as being, "twenty-five years old, 5'9" tall, and weighing one hundred and fifty pounds. Medium build, fair complexion, with slight freckles. Blue eyes, dark hair, almost black, as was his mustache and beard." March 1880 records show Martin as being Laramie County Sheriff George A. Draper's under sheriff In 1888, Martin ran for the office of sheriff of Laramie County and was elected.

Martin was born in Baltimore, Maryland, July 23, 1852. He was married and the couple had one daughter, Rose.
