Seth K. Sharples was born in Pennsylvania in 1841 and moved to Laramie County Wyoming in the 1870s where the Union Pacific Railroad employed him. He was elected as Laramie County Sheriff three times, the first in 1880 then again in 1882 and 1886. Sheriff Sharples was also a member of the Wyoming Legislature serving in the House of Representatives.
